Explore

Chase has this great book for one of his design classes called, "How to be an Explorer of The World." I've really enjoyed it, I think that the way it talks about seeing things we look at everyday in a different way really helps me to see my world through a new lens.

To explore is to examine or to investigate. I'm going to try to examine my world and see things from a new perspective, give it a try, you never know what you'll learn!

She really fits her name; gorgeous and timeless. I just love her SO much!! I feel like a little kid who stretches their arms out as far as they can go and scrunches up their face and says "I love you thisssss much", can you picture me doing this cause I'm doing it right now; Chase is looking at me weird, ha.

This session rocked, and she was so awesome to put up with the cold weather, because it was freezing, and we had no sun. But man it was fun, I could have shot all day if we hadn't lost light and if she hadn't started shivering in that last outfit change (the blue shirt that's why there's only a few in that outfit). But enjoy! I think she should be a model and I can be her photographer for clothing lines; SWEET doesn't that sound like the best idea ever?

Also did I mention I got to dress her!

I took these pictures alongside Andee from Crave Photography and Amber from Old Main Photography. It was a lot of fun and just relaxed and nice. I went a little different direction with the edits, I wanted to do soft light photos, so I feel like they worked, but it's hard to know if I want to punch the color out or soften it. I think most times I prefer to punch the color but it's fun to switch it up and the locations were good for that. I also thought I'd try organizing my photos a little differently, I like this way because it allows you to look at more photos at a time but I like the other way I do it because it allows you to see more detail. The top two were taken first and then we moved to an old mill and took a bunch of stylized shots, the hat Madelyn wore was a Gracylu Hat, pretty cool huh?!! I want to buy one of her headpieces and mess around with it, but they are hard to get a hold of.

These were fun pictures to take. The first location, the orchard, was a little hectic cause we were on a time limit of about 10 minutes with two little families but it was fun, and the second spot they chose themselves so I just showed up and tried to find different spots within the location.

I'm A Swan....

If you know me at all you know I hate pictures of myself. I love taking pictures, looking at pictures and editing pictures but when it comes to me being in them I do NOT like it. But I've decided to help me LOVE every part of me, yes that includes my face, then I'm going to try to take more pictures of myself and not shy away from the camera any longer. I love who I am and I'm even good with my body most of the time but I don't have the most photogenic face, I can see myself in the mirror and I think hmmm, I look pretty good today but then I see a photo and think man is that what I really look like!! And after taking tons of pictures I've realized unaltered photos are honest and can not lie so yep that really is me that looks so GREAT (cough, cough) in all my photos. So to help me on this process I collaged a bunch of photos I have on my computer, even ones I don't like at all.

Our-True-Identity

So not only am I swan but I'm also a child of God and he gave me the face that I have and so I will be and am grateful. I have so much to be thankful for and the Lord has blessed me with so much, how can I complain. As I learn more and more about myself I see all my flaws and shortcomings but I also see the potential and the depth that I have. Knowing these things about myself I can see who the Lord wants me to become and I can work on my flaws!! It's amazing and one day I may just be a perfect swan. So from ugly duckling to swan to perfect swan I go!!!

It's Beginning To Look ALot Like Christmas......

I love Christmas it's the best time of the year!! Who doesn't think so? I have no idea!? So why not start in October with it? It even snowed here the past two days and it made it feel so much like Christmas, but I'm not going to lie I'm not a huge fan of being cold and wet. But oh well here's an awesome Christmas announcement that simplicity gave away and I totally jumped on that band wagon!

Meet the cutest little guy!! It was a little difficult to snap some shots of this guy since he was awake and didn't lay exactly how we put him, imagine that huh?! Ha anyways I feel like we did pretty good!! In these pictures he's about 5 weeks old I believe. We tried to get him in the first two weeks (usually when they sleep the best) but our schedules never met up till this thursday. So he was awake which is fine you get to see his funny faces he pulls, he also does this fake little cry/whimper that sounds more like a puppy than anything ha ha, he was so funny!!

This is one of my friends and former former roommates. She is getting married November 12th and I was so excited to do her bridals!! It was a great day and so much fun, Kara and I did her hair and then we were off to all the spots I dragged her. She was also really willing to go and do whatever I asked, at some points I got us into scrapes and it was really hilarious Kara was told to get it on film but it didn't happen ha, anyways she was a trooper and is so gorgeous!! Conference

I love conference weekend! It has motivated me to be better, and to get back to the basics so I can have stronger faith. I love it because it gives me so much strength and hope to live every day so much better.

Lately I've really been looking at light in pictures and in just everyday life and how it touches my world and my perspective on things. And that was one of the main themes of conference was the Light of Christ. It changes who we are and makes us so much better. After the first session of conference I felt a need to be by myself and really commune with my Heavenly Father on a deeper level then I've been doing lately. And when I get that way I love to drive up to the avenues cemetery and just sit and ponder life and the awesome power of God. So I drove up and sat in the sunlight by Chase's grandmas headstone, I didn't know her but I felt I needed to be by something or someone I had a connection with. It was so amazing to take in the wonders that God has created for all of us, and I as I closed my eyes to the sun I felt the warmth penetrate my skin, and the light seemed to grower brighter behind my eyes as I focused on it. I'm so grateful for the sun that warms the earth and warms my soul, just like the Light of Christ it warms my soul and leaves me better then I was. Christ brings a peace into my hectic everyday life that I need so bad. As I listened to President Uchtdorf I felt the prompting of the spirit to really do as he said and stop and know that He is. That is one of my goals is to calm down, and take time to soak it all in, the glory of God, the atonement, the goodness of the world, and all that I have. I know the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, it's fruit is good and brings joy and peace like nothing else ever can! I rejoice as Nephi did in the goodness of God and in his mercy and love for me and for all of us. Truly life is good and Christ and God are merciful. Christ arms are stretched out continually, it is never too late!

It's been a long time coming with these pictures!! I went out a month or so ago with these two girls, two great friends, and just took some shots for fun and this is what we got! With all the clients and school and work I didn't have time to play so I finally got time and did these. It was really fun and next time I really want to go crazy, I was trying with these shots to get out of my box, and they are different but still not out of my box enough!! Sometimes shooting and thinking the same way every time I do shots gets old so I just wanted to try some new locations and some new poses, but I still fell into my way of thinking so we'll see. I wish I could do another mentoring session to boost myself another level. But money is in high demand, and there's only so much coming in right now. I just need to charge more is all bahahaha!!!

Hello Perfect Family!!

This family was a lot of fun!! I stressed and stressed about getting cool props and locations for this shoot. But I found some great spots randomly, where they didn't have to drive to far to meet me, and the kids didn't have to hike into the spots, so I was totally loving what I found. And then the day of the shoot I was running around frantic trying to find all the props I wanted and then miraculously everything fell into place and I found some awesome stuff (and a ton of it too, all for free) but I only used a few of the things. Sad I know but I'm working on incorporating props so next time I'll use more, I mean I even made an awesome banner that would have rocked with the cool old yellow bricks but, my mind was just on so many other things and I didn't bring an assistant, so I didn't get to it, no biggie but it is a little frustrating cause it would have been so fun to try. Oh well next time.

Anyways hope you enjoy!! As I do more photo shoots I keep editing and editing more, I know my pricing list says I'll do 30-40 edited ones, and that's the guarantee but chances are I'll do 20 or so more edited ones, ha I'm crazy.

Update

I've been so busy with school and work starting that all my previous endeavors have taken a back seat it seems. I have a bunch more of this lovely lady Liz, and of my friend Heather to put up, I just need to get them edited. We went out a few weekends ago and took some pictures just for fun, I really enjoyed it, they are some of my best friends it was so great!! I also wanted to put up a few more from Kim's session.

This Saturday I'm taking some photos for Dana Bunker from Delta, and I can not wait!!! It's going to be so perfect!! I hope! So stay tuned cause I'll try to get some up the Sunday following!!

My Awesome Hair and Makeup

For those of you who don't know this is me. But I never wear this much makeup or my hair so crazy awesome. Amanda a friend texted me last week and asked me if I could come in and have her cut and color my hair, so that I could then have my makeup done and model for some pics for a hair look book. So I of course thought wow cheap hair color and cut by Amanda, an amazing hair stylist, heck yes but I'm not sure why she asked me I'm no model at all. But it was fun and when I got home I drug Chase out so I could document my hair and makeup so here's one of the pictures.

Update

First I need to apologize to Kim, my phone has been dead because it would not charge but I received your text message just as my phone informed me that it no longer had enough battery for radio use. So no you did not brake my camera!! Your family is sooo cute and I can't wait to post!! I just have had no time!!

First I had to get the senior photos done, then I had to get Shayla's baby pictures done and then wednesday I went to provo, had visiting teaching, and went to dinner, which left no time.

Then Thursday Kara hung out at my house all day and we were trying to get things figured out, and I also was still working on editing baby pictures and then Chase was gone and so I had to sleep over at a friends as I'm a big scaredy cat.

Friday I had a full day of photos again!! I took some really fun pictures of a friend and her roomy, who is also a friend.

Saturday I went to Provo again to get my hair done by Amanda for a future photo shoot today!!

Came back and Chase was home from being gone for three days, so we spent time together and I was sooo super stressed that I just relaxed and read for the first time in forever!!

Then Sunday I was still super stressed so I read and relaxed some more and then today I went to Provo again and did the photoshoot, although I'm not photogenic so I have no clue why manda asked me but it was fun and I have a great hair do! ha and then I came back and got visit taught, and I also had Chase take pictures of me with crazy hair and makeup so I could edit them. And then the search for a new phone began so needless to say it's been crazy and the week flew by soooo fast!! So after this post I will be editing into the wee hours of the night, I'm going to change into pi's and watch Jonas LA the latest episode and edit Kim's pictures so there should be a new post tomorrow or Wednesday. But for now here are some pics of my new cut and of Kara with me!

Do we look like twins!? Probably not ha!! I'll also post some edited pics of me with craziness that Chase took, with help from me and our efforts combined made for some interesting conversation and end results of pics. It's one thing being behind the camera but a completely different thing being in front. And I just don't think all angles of my face are good angles to get so ugh but we will see ha!!

Boston

Shayla's little boy Boston is so CUTE!! I was so happy to go see him and Shayla. We sort of decided to do these pictures last minute so I wasn't super prepared so we only got Boston on this cute white blanket but I love them anyways especially these top ones oh man he's so CUTE!! I am so tempted, I want one!

UPdate

Okay so soon I will have two huge posts of Emily a senior, and Kim of her maternity and family. But mainly I wanted to tell Emily sorry for not getting some up last night, Chase called and we went to a movie till 12:30 and now I've got a full day of cleaning at my mother-in-laws and family reunion and the pictures of Kim to take. Hottie!!

You may be wondering who this is? Well my friends this is my hottie of a husband!! Wouldn't you say he's HOT!? I would, I do! Anyways this is one of the best shots he would let me get while we were boating on Tuesday. But who can complain, I mean the best shot of me is from behind! Ha ha.

I HATE pictures of ME, I always look so much worse in pictures then I think I look in my head or even then what I see in the mirror every day. Let's just say my husband married me for my kind loving personality, ha well that's probably even a joke cause a lot of times I'm ornery with him and I'm sure he thinks I'm crazy. Well not really but who knows what he saw in me right!? Ha ha, I'm really not trying to be negative about myself, I'm just trying to show you how amazingly good looking he is, but ya know what the best part is? He is so sweet!

He is always doing things for me, even when he may not want to. Actually the night before we went boating at midnight I realized I needed to alter my swimsuit to be modest, and I sort of was spazing cause I didn't know how to or how to sew mostly. But he calmly went to the store and got a sewing kit and proceeded to cut up an old black tank of mine and sewed it into my swimsuit while I laid on the bed and tried not to fall asleep, let's just say I wasn't successful, but Chase was, and I was so proud and thankful!! It was so sweet especially with how late it was, and my falling asleep and all.

I also felt a little bad about myself after boating, because I was around these tiny girls and felt like an ugly large monster so let's just say I was a little ornery to Chase. And ya know what he proceeded to point out all that was great about me and how much he likes and loves me. And man did I feel like a loser, Well I felt great, but I felt stupid for letting it all get to me. Don't get me wrong I love myself but there are times when I nitpick and feel awful about myself but that's only when there's a camera around and I'm wet and in a swimsuit all day! Ha well I can pretend it only happens then, but it actually doesn't happen often. Because most of the time I'm good at remembering I'm a worthy daughter of God and really that's all that matters!! That and the love of this guy!

Family

I went out on Saturday with my aunt Jill and her kids and we got some great shots. It was so much fun!!! I loved it, I got to know them so much better too, which is weird cause I didn't realize how little we know each other, but I guess the are all quite a bit younger and so I think that may be why. But there's no excuse because I love them and it was so fun!! So family we need to see each other more!! Thanks so much for the awesome time and for being so willing. As a side note Ashley found these great spots up in Tooele for us, so it was great to go to new places. I have a whole bunch more to edit and will try to get them up soon but it may be a week or so, because I have two other sessions to do this weekend and edit as well. But hope you like they were so FUNN!!

Peace

Something that I'm always searching for even after I find it is Peace.

John 14; 27 says "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

That verse always hits my heart with such force, because I know that so many people try to find peace through the things of this world, material things, but it's fleeting. I've felt the "peace" the world has to offer and it's not peace at all it's only temporary satisfaction that shifts with every moment. The Lord gives peace everlasting, his peace is all encompassing, his peace makes me feel whole and loved, his peace gives me strength and makes me want to soar.

When I don't feel the Lord's peace it's because I'm human and I've lost track of HIM, and so I search in vain for peace from the world and most times I don't realize I'm searching till I have an experience or the Spirit whispers with love "Elise, peace", and then I am soaring and feel that the whole world is at my feet and I can do anything if I can just always feel that peace.

And so I felt troubled and afraid today but as I contemplated what to do after work I realized I hadn't taken any nature pictures in such a long time and so I went out my door and found peace. Peace that spoke of the goodness of God, his greatness, his mercy, but most of all his LOVE which creates the peace HE gives! It was wondrous to my soul and I am so grateful for that experience to see through my lens, again, the manifestation of God in my life.

More/Crazy Busy

Yesterday I took photos for this lovely couple, Alexis and Eric, they are some of mine and Chase's greatest friends. We spent two summers with them doing APX alarm systems, and one of which we spent the whole summer in a 2 bedroom apartment together with 3 other people. It was nuts but so fun, and Lex has been so positive and supportive of my photography, I jumped at the chance to take some pictures of them, especially since they were visiting from Arizona, so we don't get to see them very often.

I was only able to get up a few because I've just been so busy and running on 3 hours of sleep from last night. So eventually I will get more up, but as of right now this is all I could find time and energy to do. I also won't be able to put more up for awhile because tomorrow my sister Kara comes home and then it's off to Delta with me for a whole week and a few days!!! I'm soo excited to see my awesome twin sister, and hang out with her!!

I'm also taking some photos of a large extended family in Delta on Friday so when I get back I'll have a lot to edit, but wish me luck large groups are always eventful and stressful. I'm hoping all goes well!! In the meantime everyone have an awesome 4th!! I know I will Delta/Family/Kara/Fireworks/Everything else = one freakin heck of a good time!!!

Isn't Lex super gorgeous!!! I love this top picture of her, actually snapped this while her husband Eric was trying to direct her in some sort of hair swoop that we never fully got but I think this picture is great of her!! And as a funny side note Eric is super hilarious and nicely opinionated about his pictures, I was literally laughing almost the whole time. Which was so fun, but also made for more blurry pictures then I normally get! Ha ha at least I got some great ones, I think anyways.

This is my photo shoot that I went and did with Crave Photography! In case your wondering if that means if I did these or not I did!! I have more but I finally decided that I should just post the ones I have. I really enjoyed taking these photos, not only because I learned more photoshop techniques while at the workshop but also because the girls are gorgeous, fun, and had super awesome outfits! Outfits can really make or break a photo shoot, clothes and specifically accessories can really make a photo interesting so if you are ever wondering what to wear here's some do's and don'ts

Do wear lots of layers, tanks, blouses, vests, necklace, headband, leggings, skirts boots and or heels, and skinny jeans rock! I can't wear them but props to these girls they looked smokin!

Don't match!!!!!! I know we all have had family shoots where you've matched colors even two or three, but no that just looks goofy so maybe just tell your family to wear something nice with layers but no matchy matchy buisness. In fact if your outfit is sort of retro and doesn't necessarily match but goes well do it!

Don't wear shirts with huge logos on them.

Don't wear shorts or tennis shoes!!

What else I think that's mainly it for now.

I went and did a mentoring session yesterday with Crave Photography, and it was absolutely amazing!! I can't wait to share the photos but since I got home at 12:30 last night and didn't go to bed till 2:00 and woke up at 6:45 to come to work, I'm not sure when I'll get them posted. But I can not say enough about Andee from Crave, she was so fun, laid back and amazing!! I feel as though I made a friend for life. I also feel so good now that I've got some inspiration and guidance under my belt. Up till now I've just completely taught myself everything and just didn't feel completely confident but this mentorship changed a lot of that and I'm way excited.

On my to do list is get a new blog (one I have to pay for so it won't be for awhile) so I just changed it for free and it's not customized so definitely not a finished project, and get a new lens that will allow me to get that killer blurred background. I was just dying looking at crave's photos from the same session we did together because her 50 mm lens closed down to a 1.8 f stop and mine was a wimpy 5.6 f stop which didn't give me such soft blurred backgrounds. So that is my to do list for the next while. I think I can really take this places if I decide to, I just don't know when and if I'll ever buckle down and try to make a huge buisness of photography. I love it, but I'm torn I don't really want to make it my profession and lose the laid back fun I have with keeping it as more a hobby/part time thing, so we'll see. I'm definitely interested in doing some more mentoring sessions so we'll see where my time, and most importantly my bank account can take me!!

So excited to go home and get some of the photoshoot pictures up here!! Watch out for them.

It's been awhile since I've posted but well I guess I just haven't had anything to say. But I have a lot going on now so I thought I'd recap the past couple weeks and tell the next couple. Chase is still working up at the University, and I'm nannying for two awesome girls for the summer. The nannying is great because it's low key but full time and very flexible it's everything I prayed for and asked for.

We also started getting more fit. We are now on our fourth week of P90X and we have been eating a lot more healthy. My diet actually include fruits and veggies, and vitamins, who'd have thought I'd be able to do it!!? We also haven't had any fast food, or candy I'm truly amazed that we are pulling this off, and it's fun! We also love to go hiking but just hadn't done much, but we went the other weekend and it was so fun, (hopefully pictures will follow), we even decided to invest in some hiking shoes since Chase fell twice on the hike.

Tomorrow I'm mentoring one on one pretty much all day with a fellow photographer, and I'm super excited!!! A little nervous but way excited. I sort of didn't want to do it earlier today, because I haven't taken any pictures lately because it's just been crazy, so I sort of felt out of my grove, but I'm back in it baby!! I scoured others pages really remembering why I like to look, create and take photos. Then I edited some more photos just for fun, and it was so much fun. So now I'm all prepped and ready to go for tomorrow!! Can't wait.

There's lots more going on but not enough time, so I'll summarize, Chase Mecham speaks this Sunday, Kara gets home next Thursday, 4th of July, Pictures for a family in Delta, Spending a whole week with Kara after she gets home, Kara speaks on the 11th of July, More pictures for some Deltanites and Hanging out and swimming and catching some sun!!!

AWWWW Summer I love you!!!

Oh and I'm not pregnant, but our 3 YEAR anniversary is this coming Tuesday!!!! That's very important just forgot to put on the list!!!
